The English department, headed by Mrs. Susan C. Sibulo, Head Teacher I, Mrs. Jane B. Dacaymat, Reading Coordinator, and all English teachers, led the Second Friday of the Catch Up Together on February 23, 2024, with selected sixth grade pupils of Tropical Village Elementary School, which aims to address learners’ difficulties in literacy. The said activity started with the preparatory activities, which began with greetings and checking of attendance. It was facilitated by Ma’am Jane B. Dacaymat and Mrs. Dayren B. Bawalan.
Also, Mrs. Leizl P. Lorica, Mrs. Richelle Ramirez, and Mrs. Dayren B. Bawalan led the preliminary activity, in which the pupils were grouped and asked to arrange rumbled letters to form a word based on a picture.
During the main game, Mrs. Jane B. Dacaymat and Mrs. Mary Ann R. Cabello managed the pupils in playing the ‘Hagis Pamato’ (carnival game like) where learners threw the pamato to the squares with words written in it and read them. The group that was able to read as many words as they could in a span of 3 minutes won in this game.
After that, they were asked to read the words again and translate it in Filipino/Tagalog to check if they really understand the words in the ‘Hagis Pamato’ game. In addition, pupils had a 5-word spelling. This was facilitated by Mrs. Analyn V. Cabantac and Mrs. Lynn T. Dimacali.
And lastly, learners received a heart with the corresponding points based on their group rank. They themselves posted it on tally sheet.
They were also given a snack as a simple reward for their active participation in this activity.
