TVNHS through the Mathematics Department continued bringing fun-filled and educational Catch up Together activities to selected pupils of Tropical Village Elementary School on March 15.
With the goal of enhancing the numeracy skills of the selected TVES pupils, the Mathematics Department led by Mrs. Lea P. Amon, OIC-Department Head, started the program with their preliminary activities. One of the pupils was asked to lead the prayer. It was followed by a pre-test containing items about fundamental operations and other Mathematical concepts that will be developed during the whole duration of the catch-up activities of the Mathematics Department to assess participants’ numeracy level. The selected students showed their eagerness in answering the test within the given time.
Right after the pre-test, Mrs. Jenilyn S. Loyola, Master Teacher I, introduced the game “Mathok Bola.” It was followed by a video presentation that explained the mechanics of the game. She further explained the mechanics of the game after the students watched the video presentation.
The students were divided into two teams, wearing an assigned number for each member. The game started with a toss coin to determine who would hit the initial score first. The goal of the game was to hit all the opponent’s players. Each team was given 5 minutes to hit the player. After the given time, players were asked by the facilitators to perform the operation for their team score.
Students showed not only their mental ability but also their physical ability during the game. The students learned Mathematics with fun and enjoyment with the game “Mathok Bola.”After the game, students were asked to compute their score by performing the fundamental operations in the correct order (MDAS). The green team was declared the winner.
Finally, Mrs. Arlene V. Ferrer asked the students techniques for adding numbers. Mrs. Jenilyn S. Loyola added the order of fundamental operations (MDAS). Students were asked to generalize what they learned from the activity.
