The Mathematics Department continued its fun-filled activities at Tapia Elementary School as part of the Catch Up Together of Tropical Village National High School and Tapia Elementary School during the Catch-up Friday on April 19, 2024.
With the goal of enhancing the numeracy skills of the selected Tapia Elementary pupils, the Mathematics Department, led by Mrs. Lea P. Amon, OIC-Department Head, facilitated the first session in Mathematics of Catch Up Together during Catch-Up Friday.
The activity started with a prayer led by a selected pupil from Tapia Elementary School. It was followed by a pre-test to determine students’ level of knowledge about four fundamental operations and other mathematics concepts.
Mrs. Jenilyn S. Loyola, Master Teacher I, introduced the game “Mathok Bola.” It is a game based on the famous “Batong Bola,” where the player hits the opponents with a ball.
The students were divided into two teams; each team had a chance of hitting the opponent’s players within the given time. The goal of the game was to hit all the players of the opponent. After hitting, the group will be asked to compute their score by applying the four fundamental operations following the MDAS (Multiplication, Division, Subtraction, and Addition) rule.
After the two teams played “Mathok Bola,” the green team was declared the winner of the game. But the fun and excitement of the game did not end with the two teams. Mathematics teachers joined them in playing the game “Mathok Bola.” Mathematics teachers served as the “taya” who hit the elementary pupils.
The activity developed not only the mental abilities of the students but also their physical abilities. In addition, the most important part of the game was that it developed camaraderie and sportsmanship. The students learned mathematics with fun and enjoyment while playing “Mathok Bola.”
