TLE Department Conducts LAC Session on Crafting Contextualized Performance-Based Assessment

On October 16, 2024, the TLE Department organized a LAC session entitled “Crafting Contextualized Performance-Based Assessment.” The session aimed to equip teachers with the skills to develop contextualized performance-based assessments that evaluate students’ abilities through practical tasks, rather than traditional testing methods, focusing on real-world skills and competencies to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes.

The program began with participant registration, efficiently managed by Mrs. Jacqueline D. Leaban. Attendees gathered early, creating an atmosphere of excitement and readiness for the day’s activities. The event officially started with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a solemn opening prayer through an audio-visual presentation.

Next, Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, delivered a warm and motivating welcome address, emphasizing the importance of innovative assessments in enhancing student learning outcomes. Shortly after, the Public Schools District Supervisor, Sir Rogin O. Contemprato, gave an inspiring message, highlighting the district’s commitment to supporting the professional development of teachers, particularly in adapting assessments to contextualize learning.

Mrs. Amorcita P. Endaya then outlined the session’s purpose, stressing the significance of crafting performance-based assessments that are tailored to students’ real-world experiences, aligning with current educational reforms.

Ms. Regine C. Reforma, OIC Department Head of TLE, was introduced as the speaker of the day. During her presentation, she clearly explained the topic, offering practical strategies for crafting effective and contextualized performance tasks. The session was highly engaging, with participants actively taking notes and asking questions. Ample time was allotted for each specialization and grade level to create their own performance tasks.

Mrs. Mary Jane B. Galvez and Mrs. Amorcita P. Endaya presented their outputs and received technical guidance from Dr. Creus and Dr. Contemprato.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Edith M. Movilla facilitated an open forum, where participants shared their questions, ideas, and reflections. At the conclusion of the seminar, certificates of appreciation were awarded to Ms. Regine C. Reforma, Mrs. Amorcita P. Endaya, and Mrs. Mary Jane B. Galvez. The event closed with remarks from Mrs. Mariglo S. Bayot, Head Teacher III, who expressed her gratitude to the participants, the TWG, and the speaker. She encouraged everyone to apply the knowledge they had gained to their teaching practices, with the goal of making assessments more contextualized and effective.

The seminar was deemed a success, equipping teachers with the knowledge to enhance their teaching and assessment methods.
