“TVNHS Conducts Seminar-Workshop on Fostering Safe Spaces: Strategies for Suicide Prevention Among Learners ”
n support of RA No. 11036, RA 12080, DO No. 14, s. 2020, and SM No. 2024-08-001, s. 2024, the school conducted a seminar entitled “Seminar-Workshop on Fostering Safe Spaces: Strategies for Suicide Prevention Among Learners,” participated by selected school personnel and learners, March 20, 2025, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the TVNHS Audio-Visual Room.
On March 20, 2025, Tropical Village National High School excitedly participated with a sense of purpose and urgency as educators, church leaders, and learners gathered for a pivotal seminar-workshop entitled “Fostering Safe Spaces: Strategies for Suicide Prevention Among Learners.” This aimed to raise awareness about the prevalence of suicide and its impact on individuals, families, and communities; equip participants with practical, evidence-based, and faith-based strategies for identifying individuals at risk; create a mental health plan, and promote mental wellness and resilience. The event commenced promptly at 9:00 AM in the School’s Audio‐Visual Room. The program began with the registration of all participants facilitated by Mrs. Emely B. Castro, Teacher II. Ms. Hadassah V. Recare, Teacher I and In‐Charge of the Ceremony, welcomed all participants. It was followed by singing the Philippine National Anthem and opening prayer through an audio-visual presentation. Mrs. Analyn V. Cabantac, Teacher I, presented the participants. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, delivered his opening remarks. In his opening remarks, Dr. Creus emphasized the importance to create better understanding, opportunities and systems to respond to the massive unmet need for mental health support, stating, “This is one of our measures para maiwasan ang ganitong insidente ( suicide) sa ating paaralan bawat bata dito sa Tropical Village National High School ay niyayakap anuman ang inyong kakayahan, anuman ang inyong limitasyon. Dahil ang gusto natin bawat bata magkaroon ng talino, magkaroon ng tikas, magkaroon ng tapang dahil iyon ang tatak natin bilang isang Tropicalian.” This was followed by the Statement of Purpose delivered by Ms Irene M. Dulay,Teacher III, who outlined the objectives of the seminar. After the statement of purpose, the workshop commenced with an inspiring keynote address by Rev. Dennise D. Ogalesco, Head Pastor of Journey Church Philippines, located at General Trias City, Cavite. He discussed the first topic: Understanding Suicide and Breaking the Stigma. He is also an advocate for youth mental health. His words resonated deeply as he shared poignant Statistics and personal stories that highlighted the critical need for safe spaces where learners can express their feelings without fear of judgment. The second speaker Ptr. Ruther M. Urquia, Associate Pastor of Faith‐Life South, discussed the second topic about Identifying Warning Signs and Offering Support. He also emphasized the need to have a deep connection or relationship to God, in order for us to avoid being suicidal. After the second speaker, the participants had their lunch at 12:00 NN. It was resumed at 12: 30 NN. The third speaker, Ptr. Brylle Jasper B. Adufina, Youth Pastor and Worship Leader of Journey Church Philippines, started the session with a heartfelt music. He focused on finding strength and hope in the midst of hardships and suffering. The last speaker, Ps. Krizzia Kate D. Yuzon, a Senior Pastor from Hope Family Ministry, ignited the session with a powerful and inspiring message of faith, love, and forgiveness. She shared her story and encouraged the participants to value their precious life from God.
As the activity ended, participants gathered in small clusters, exchanging insights and forming networks aimed at enhancing mental health initiatives in the school. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air, a testament to the bonds being forged through a shared mission. The sense of community was evident as participants exchanged contact information, vowing to support one another in their ongoing efforts to create safer environments for learners. The afternoon session featured a panel discussion with students from Tropical Village National High School, who bravely shared their perspectives on mental health and the importance of safe spaces. Their candid reflections underscored the need for adults to listen and understand the unique pressures faced by today’s youth. The authenticity of their voices served as a powerful reminder of the seminar’s purpose and the impact of fostering genuine connections between students and educators. Following the breakout sessions and sharing of insights, was the awarding of certificates to the facilitators, given by Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV and Mrs. Susan C. Sibulo. Mrs. Susan C. Sibulo, Head Teacher I, delivered her closing remarks. In her closing remarks, Mrs. Sibulo reiterated the significance of mental health awareness to the students.
The seminar concluded at 3:00 PM. Participants left the seminar-workshop not only equipped with knowledge and resources but also inspired to take action within their communities. The event culminated in a pledge, where each participant committed to fostering safe spaces in their respective schools, ensuring that no student would feel alone in their struggles.The seminar marked a significant step forward in the collective effort to prioritize mental health.

Empowering Journalists: Training Workshop on Campus Journalism and School Papering
Aiming to equip participants with the skills and techniques needed to craft compelling newspaper articles, write clear and engaging content, and edit effectively, Tropical Village National High School held a Training Workshop on Campus Journalism and School Papering for selected teachers and students. on March 8, 2025, at TVNHS Audio Visual Room.
The session covered the fundamentals of writing, editing, and publishing school newspaper content as the resource speaker shared her expertise. Participants were encouraged to explore new ideas and formats to engage their readers, while maintaining ethical standards in their journalistic work.
The Training Workshop was a success, helping teachers and students improve their campus journalism skills and connect with others passionate about school publications.
