Aiming to equip participants with the skills and techniques needed to craft compelling newspaper articles, write clear and engaging content, and edit effectively, Tropical Village National High School held a Training Workshop on Campus Journalism and School Papering for selected teachers and students. on March 8, 2025, at TVNHS Audio Visual Room.
The program commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a Prayer through an Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP). Mrs. Adora D. Laquindanum, Teacher I, presented the participants of the Training Workshop.
Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, gave his Welcome Remarks, highlighting the importance of the training in promoting responsible journalism on campus. This was followed by the Statement of Purpose by Ms. Jennibeth V. Ilagan, Master Teacher I, who outlined the training’s objectives. Mrs. Emely Castro, Filipino OIC Department Head, warmly introduced the resource speaker.
The seminar proper began with a presentation on Campus Journalism and School Papering, facilitated by experts in the field, Dr. Marivic T. Climacosa. The session covered the fundamentals of writing, editing, and publishing school newspaper content, while Dr. Climacosa also shared examples of her own work.
Participants were encouraged to explore new ideas and formats to engage their readers, while maintaining ethical standards in their journalistic work.Furthermore, Dr. Climacosa stated that in order to win a school paper, two crucial factors must be considered: content and design.
In the afternoon, a highlight of the seminar was the Critiquing of the School Paper. Dr. Climacosa took a hands-on approach, reviewing school’s publications and offering constructive feedback on how to enhance the content, layout, and overall impact of school papers. The discussion was both insightful and interactive, with participants exchanging ideas and best practices to create publications that were not only informative but also engaging.
As the seminar came to an end, Dr. Marivic T. Climacosa, the resource speaker, was presented with a certificate of recognition by Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV. Then, Mrs. Susan C. Sibulo, Head Teacher I, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to everyone for their active participation and encouraging them to apply the knowledge gained in the session.
The Training Workshop was a success, helping teachers and students improve their campus journalism skills and connect with others passionate about school publications.
