In celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month, Tropical Village National High School held a week-long program from October 7 – 10, 2025, anchored on the theme “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All”. This event emphasized the vital role of statistical data in monitoring and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aimed to promote data literacy, especially among students and educators.
The event also aimed to enhance understanding the importance of statistics in achieving SDGs, promote data presentation skills among students and teachers, foster critical thinking and innovation through various statistical contests, and encourage collaborative learning through activities involving data interpretation and visualization.
The weeklong celebration started with a symposium for students about presentation and automation of data in tables and graphs held on the 7th day of October, 2025 at the audio-visual room.
The symposium started by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by a prayer through an audio-video presentation. Mrs. Arlene B. Payaban, Teacher II, presented the participants. Welcome Remarks was delivered by Mrs. Lea P. Amon, Head Teacher I, on behalf of Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV. And, the Rationale and Activity Overview was presented by Mrs. Jenilyn S. Loyola, Master Teacher II, who also laid out the objectives and expected outcomes of the sessions and contests.
During the symposium, two informative sessions were held to enhance data presentation skills. The first session was about presentation of data in tables and graphs discussed by Mrs. Loida C. Badillo, Teacher II, while the second session was about automation of data from table to graphs discussed by Mr. Joey M. Dolindo, Teacher I.
These sessions focused on how to convert raw data into meaningful visuals, which is essential in tracking Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress.
An Open Forum was conducted by Jose M. Amparo (Teacher III), allowing participants to raise questions, share insights, and engage in dialogue.
As part of the celebration, Slogan Making, Poster Making, Quiz Bee and StatStreak: The Instant Data Challenge were conducted from October 8-10, 2025. These contests showcased students’ creativity, critical thinking, and understanding of the role of statistics in real-world issues, particularly in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
The closing ceremony began with a Nationalistic Song through an Audio-Visual Presentation. A Critiquing Session on Automated Data Presentation was conducted by Mrs. Rosemarie Gayas and Mrs. Jacqueline Leaban, ICT Teachers of our school. This session provided valuable feedback on students’ outputs and emphasized the importance of data accuracy and clarity in reporting.
The Awarding of Medals and Certificates to contest winners and facilitators with recognition given by Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, during the Flag Raising Ceremony on October 13, 2025 in the school’s covered court.
The celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month at Tropical Village National High School was a resounding success. The activities conducted throughout the week not only raised awareness on the significance of statistics in sustainable development but also empowered students to become data-literate individuals, capable of contributing to data-driven decision-making in the future.
