With the aim of raising public awareness about TB symptoms and availability of TB services in communities, the University Research Company (URC) USAID in partnership with Local Government Unit of General Trias City through City Health Office conducted a free X-ray examination to 187 Tropicalian learners on October 20.
“Nagbigay ang URC-USAID ng 2000 slots para sa General Trias City kaya naman naisip ko makipagtie-up sa Tropical Village National High School para naman maabot ang mga mag-aaral at mabigyan sila ng karampatang kaalaman tungkol sa TB,” Mrs. Cervantes, City NTP Coordinator, said.
According to Mrs. Neldy Cervantes,City National Tuberculosis Coordinator, Tropical Village is among the community with the highest tuberculosis rate that’s why she thought of providing free X-ray examination to the school.
Before the examination began, Mrs. Neldy Cervantes, City NTP Coordinator and Mr. Julius Ceasar Florido, Rad.Tech from URC- USAID , held a short briefing to learners. Mrs. Cervantes explained the importance of X-ray examination for early detection while Mr. Florido discussed the procedures that the learners had to follow.
After the briefing Mrs. Cynthia Escaldron, URC-USAID community organizer, and Mrs. Shiela Sanglo, CHO/TBDOB handed out the forms to be filled-out by the learners. Then, the learners proceeded to the X-ray section to be examined.
If no unusual marks were identified, learners would go back to their respective classrooms, but if found out there were identified markings, learners would be given a container in which learners had to put their saliva in it for examination.
The team started at 9 am and ended at 2:30 pm, where a total of 187 learners were examined including some grade 8 learners.
The learners proceeded to the X-ray section to be examined.
