English Department Conducts Various Activities in National Reading Month Celebration

The English Department, under the headship of Mrs. Susan C. Sibulo, Head Teacher I/OIC-Department Head, Mrs. Jane B. Dacaymat, Reading Coordinator, and all the English Teachers, conducted different activities and contests in celebration of National Reading Month this November.

These activities and contests include the following: spelling bee, essay writing, oratorical contest, debate, and Literacy Carnival Games, which were done on different dates and venues.

Teachers, as well as the practice teachers also participated in the Reading month celebration.

In addition, in the Literacy Carnival Games, students played these games: Pop the Balloons with questions inside (to be answered by the students), PIKO, by which learners played it and answered questions for every hop that they did, Hagis Pamato, wherein the students threw the ‘pamato’ or dice, and whichever is hit by the dice, the learners shall use it in a sentence, and the Giant Word Hunt, where students looped words as many as they could within 5 minutes.

The said Literacy Carnival Games were participated in by all the students from Grade 7 to Grade 10 in different schedules. It was facilitated by all English teachers and assisted by the practice teachers.

Also, they had a Human Spelling Bee-Teachers Edition where teachers wore a cloth with letters attached in front and back. According to Mrs. Ma. Andrea S. Arbonida, MAPEH Teacher, “It was a challenging game, yet it was fun, and we enjoyed playing it”.

Moreover, English Group managed to have a contest which was the “Most Influential Character 2023” for students and teachers. The winners were awarded during the closing program of Reading Month held in the covered court on November 24, 2023.

And finally, on November 24, 2023, Dr. Rogin O. Contemprato, PSDS of Cluster 8, together with Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, tried some of the “Literacy Carnival Games,” such as Hagis Pamato, Pop the balloons, and Giant Word Hunt, in the exhibition games played by the students from different sections and grade levels.
