Brgy. San Francisco Spearheads Safer Internet Day Seminar

Barangay San Francisco in the leadership of Hon. Ryan T. Santor, Brgy. Captain, together with the Barangay Councilors conducted a Safer Internet Day seminar with the theme “Together for a Better Internet” at the school’s covered court on February 6, 2024, to ensure everyone’s safety at all ages on the internet. It was attended by selected students from different grade levels.

Hon. Queenie Mar R. Cortez-Dela Cruz, Brgy. Councilor/Committee Chair on Women Children and Family, initiated and proposed this event to raise awareness about the importance of internet safety for everyone and to give people perspective and awareness of what the internet is and the dangers it causes, particularly for students and young people.

The event started with the singing of the National Anthem, led by Wafa O. Omar, SSLG President, with the opening remarks of Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, along with the message of Hon Queenie Mar R. Cortez-Dela Cruz, Brgy. Councilor, on behalf of Hon. Ryan T. Santor, followed by the messages of Hon. Councilors Eddie L. Umali, Dennis Magsino, Noel Lacson, and Hon. SK Chairman Kevin Andrei C. Trinidad, and the introduction of the speaker led by Ms. Joy A. Razo, Women’s Desk Officer.

The event’s purpose was tackled by the respectful speaker, Lovely Gonzales, Chief-WCPD.

The event aims to promote a safer internet for all users, including young people, parents, teachers, schools, and the government, to make the internet a better place for all, especially young people.

The event also talked about cyberbullying, which is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person online, and also the kinds of cyberbullying made on social media platforms.

“Cyberbullying kapag gumagamit ng computer system para mang-harass ng tao at iba pa sa internet,” stated by speaker Lovely Gonzales, Chief-WCPD.

In addition, she also gave emphasis on the statistics of the effects of cyberbullying, which are low self-esteem (37%), experiencing deterioration in their performance in school (30%), and 33% for those who are experiencing depression.

It is also said that young people over the age of 13 to 17 are the ones who are commonly experiencing different types of cyberbullying.

Meanwhile, speaker Lovely Gonzales also explained some ways to prevent cyberbullying.

The event was formally ended with the the awarding of certificate to the guest speaker and it was followed by a closing remarks of Councilor Eddie L. Umali, Brgy. Councilor.
