TVNHS conducted a seminar entitled, “Focus On Inclusion: Provision Of Educational Programs, Services For Learners With Disability” on November 4-8, 2024 at TVNHS Multipurpose room and covered court participated by selected teachers, students, and parents that aimed at fostering inclusivity in education for learners with disabilities.
The day began with the registration process led by Mrs. Elsie A. Palapal. Participants were warmly greeted, setting a collaborative tone for the day. The formal program began with the National Anthem and an opening prayer, accompanied by an AVP that offered a brief overview of the day’s goals.
Next, Dr. Mark Airon P. Creus, Principal IV, gave his welcome remarks. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities for learners with disabilities, urging everyone present to work together to make education more accessible for all. Then, Dr. Rogin O. Contemprato, PSDS of Cluster 8, shared a powerful message via video on the role of schools in providing an inclusive environment that caters to learners of all abilities. He highlighted the need for continuous support and advocacy for students with disabilities, reinforcing the theme of the event.
During the seminar proper, Mrs. Ma. Teresa A. Colada, Teacher II, speaker of Day 1, provided an insightful and hands-on workshop on sign language. Ma’am Colada’s expertise allowed teachers and students to grasp basic signs, which are essential tools for communicating with learners who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Mrs. Angelita P. Allarey, Inclusion Coach, led the Day 2 session on Crafting an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This session was designed to provide teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop IEPs for students with disabilities.
At Day 4 of the seminar, Mrs. Mary Anne A. Egama, Teacher II, facilitated an informative and hands-on workshop on Dishwashing Liquid Making. This session was designed not only to teach LWDs how to create a useful household product but also to show how such practical activities could be adapted for learners with disabilities, encouraging life skills development and inclusion.
During Day 3 of the seminar, Mrs. Jacqueline D. Leaban, Teacher I, led a hands-on workshop on Candle Making. The goal of the workshop was to provide LWDs with a creative activity that could be adapted for learners with disabilities, fostering inclusion through a simple, engaging craft.
Day 5 of the seminar, Mrs. Angelita P. Allarey, IEP Advocate, gave an insightful session on Bridging Home and School: The Role of Parents in Special Education.The meeting was designed to highlight the crucial role parents play in the educational journey of children with disabilities. She emphasized that special education does not only happen in the classroom; it is a collaborative process between teachers, parents, and the community. Parents are vital partners in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for their children.
After the discussion, certificate of recognition was given to all the speakers.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Mrs. Mariglo S. Bayot, Head Teacher III. In her speech, she thanked everyone for their contributions throughout the week-long seminar, highlighting the importance of the knowledge shared and the strong sense of community that had been built during the sessions. She encouraged all participants to continue applying the lessons learned and to keep working together in support of learners with disabilities.
