
DepEd Order No. 28, s. 2018, or “Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OK sa DepEd),” is the Department of Education’s program that brings together different health and nutrition services in schools. It includes medical and dental check-ups, school feeding, deworming, immunization, mental health support, and hygiene promotion. The goal is to make sure all learners have access to health services because healthy students learn better.DepEd Memorandum No. 128, s. 2016, also known as the Implementation of the School-Based Immunization Program, reinforces the government’s commitment to protecting children’s health by providing free and accessible vaccines in schools. This initiative aims to reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases among learners, ensuring they remain healthy, active, and ready to learn.
In line with PD No.174 s. 1974, DepEd Order No.28 s. 2018 , DepEd Memorandum No. 128 s.2016 and DepEd Memorandum No. 80, s.2015, Tropical Village National High School conducted a one-day orientation on deworming entitled “Protecting Every Child: The Power of Immunization and Deworming” on July 11, 2025 at 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm participated by the parents, selected teaching and non-teaching personnel, SPTA Officers and SSLG Officers of Tropical Village National High School.
The objectives of the activity are as follows: raise awareness on the benefits of immunization and deworming among students and parents; enhance the overall health and well-being of learners; promote a healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment; and strengthen collaboration with parents and guardians in advocating for immunization and deworming initiatives.
On July 11, 2025, Tropical Village National High School successfully conducted a seminar focused on deworming and immunization, aimed at promoting health awareness among students and the local community. The seminar was held at the school’s audiovisual room, which was prepared to accommodate students, teachers, parents, and community members. The seminar was organized by the school’s Health and Wellness Committee, headed by Mrs. Lea P. Amon and Mrs. Ailyn Sidamon, in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office.
The activity commenced at noon with an opening prayer and singing of the National Anthem through an audiovisual presentation. It was followed by the presentation of the participants facilitated by Mrs. Adora D. Laquindanum, Teacher II. It was followed by an opening message delivered by the Head Teacher III, Mrs. Mariglo S. Bayot, who emphasized the importance of preventive health measures in maintaining a healthy community. Mrs. Lea P. Amon, Head Teacher I, delivered the statement of purpose. Ms. Irene Dulay, Teacher III, introduced the resource speaker of the seminar.
Ms. Mary Ann C. Bartlome, Nurse Supervisor in the City Health Office, discussed the significance of deworming in preventing intestinal parasitic infections that can affect students’ health and learning capabilities. She also provided comprehensive information about immunization schedules, the benefits of vaccines in preventing illnesses such as measles, polio, and influenza, and addressed common misconceptions related to immunization. Throughout the seminar, participants actively engaged in the discussion and shared their experiences. Participants also actively participated during the open forum, facilitated by Mrs. Ailyn A. Sidamon, Teacher III, which helped clarify doubts and encouraged a better understanding of the topics.
The activity concluded with a commitment from the school and community members to prioritize health initiatives such as regular deworming and immunization. A certificate of recognition was given to the resource speaker as an appreciation for her invaluable service and commitment.
The seminar effectively increased awareness about deworming and immunization, fostering a healthier school environment and empowering the community with vital health knowledge. The seminar was deemed successful, and plans are underway to conduct follow-up activities and health campaigns in the coming months.
